But before I can sneak away to Pennsylvania for some much needed rest and relaxation, I wanted to share with you a few tricks and treats from my classroom to yours.
Trick #1 - Get organized. This might seem like a "duh Mrs. D!" moment, but in all seriousness, you need to get a folder for each day of the week. Keep extra copies in these folders. You never know when you'll need a quick lesson or emergency sub plans. This way you'll have at least 5 days of emergency plans.
Trick #2 - Stock up on holiday-themed books. Normally, I don't always have time to read each and every holiday book I own... especially Halloween books, but I always put them out for students to see. I seriously own way more than any person ever should (and my husband may or may not have cut me off from buying books for awhile).
(In this picture, you can see how I organize my classroom library. To see more, check out this post.)
Either way, when your lesson ends 3 minutes early or your schedule changes, and easy and effective time filler is always story time. When you have a plethora of books to choose from, you won't waste time picking just one book. Plus, if you set them out like I do, you could even have a student choose a book.
I don't know about you, but my favorite part of Halloween is definitely the candy. And not just any candy, the Reese cups! Oh boy... my love for Reese cups runs deep ya'll.

ReplyDeleteI bet he did cut you off from buying more books! You have been on a book buying spree all year! And I AM totally with you on "what happened to 2015?!?"
ReplyDeleteI am a bit of a book addict too and have way to many Hallowe'en books too. You don't want to see my Christmas book collection :) I store my books the same way. It was a chore to get them that way but now I love that I can pull the box and find the books I need.
