I am so excited to share Place Value Zoo with you for today's product swap. Thank you so much to Jungle Learners for hosting and allowing all of us to participate!
And a big thank you to Erin from Super in 2nd for letting me try your product. My kids absolutely loved it, so let me tell you how I used it in my classroom!
I didn't quite use the packet for practicing base ten and ones to just count. My sweet little friends need work on adding one- and two-digit numbers and identifying numbers in word and number form, so I set up 3 different stations with the 3 sets of cards included.
The first station was at the back table where we do all of our work. The
students were given the lion addition cards and had to solve them and write
the answer on the cards.
The second station got them out of their seats and moving to another table in the classroom. I had all of the flamingo cards laid out for them. They had to try to find a match to their addition problem. Not all of the lion cards matched a flamingo card, but I didn't tell them that. They had to figure that little part out on their own, and they did so awesome!
The third station was another station that got them out of their seats and had them moving towards the front board. This time, they needed to match the lion card (and possibly a flamingo card) to an elephant card. I taped them on the front board and mixed them up so they weren't in numerical order. Again, not all of the cards matched a lion or flamingo card and my kids had to figure this out on their own.
Since we had a few flamingo and elephant cards left over, we went through each card and read them together. We matched up a couple of sets too. I was super impressed with how well they did and how well they did this activity independently!
I'm definitely going to keep this activity packed in my sub tub for those emergency sub plans!
One of my favorite things about getting to swap products is getting to try a new product. The second is being able to give one lucky winner the chance to try this product out too!

I enjoyed your post. This sounds like a fun activity. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lot of fun! Thanks for the opportunity! I like teaching math with manipulatives becomes it makes more abstract concepts more concrete.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! This looks like a great resource for second grade!
