Back 2 School Linky - Week 3 Classroom Decor

When I realized that this week's link up for Miss V's Busy Bees and I's Back 2 School Linky was classroom decor... well, I got a little excited. Who am I kidding! I got A LOT excited! A trip to Lakeshore Learning that wasn't to buy curriculum guides and workbooks? Count me in! *Don't get me wrong, any trip to Lakeshore Learning is fun... even for curriculum stuff and workbooks :)

If you've seen some of my Facebook posts about the theme I chose for my classroom, then you'll know I went with my Tribal Herringbone theme. I love the colors, I love the gray herringbone and I feel like I can do a lot with it to decorate my classroom. Plus it isn't too overstimulating :)

Now I can't get into my classroom until August 4th, but I've been planning my classroom decor since I accepted the position in April. I know, I'm a little crazy. I only took 4 photos of my classroom when I visited and it just happened to be all packed up, so I'm not quite sure what exactly it will look like once I get in there.

It's like a clean, fresh slate... which is super exciting!

I have created a "How We Go Home" chart, a "Where We Are" door hang display, alphabet wall, word wall, and a number line in the tribal theme. But since I only have 1 dedicated bulletin board in my classroom, I picked up these 2 borders at Lakeshore Learning:
I picked up some orange bulletin board paper that claims to not fade (by the way, have you ever heard of flame retardant bulletin board paper?! Please explain this to me!). The colors will look really nice and fit in perfectly with my tribal herringbone theme.

Since I don't have a clue about what kind of wall space I have, other ideas in my head are kind of on hold until the 4th. At the same time, I'm not too worried about not having my classroom fully decked out for the first week of school. I am more concerned with getting my students' IEPs and getting an idea of what I need to plan academically.

What are some things I want to academically get organized for the first day of school? The calendar center area! The classroom library! Dedicated table areas for academic centers! and visual schedules around the classroom and individual visual schedules for my students on their desks.

Hmm... better get to work. I still have a lot left!
